Family Therapy & Marriage Counseling

What is family therapy?

It's a type of talk therapy where family members meet together with a therapist to work through conflicts, improve communication, and strengthen their relationships with one another.

What is marriage counseling?

It's similar to family therapy, but focused specifically on couples—helping partners work through disagreements, reconnect, and build a healthier relationship.

Is this only for people with serious problems?

Not at all. While many people come in during a difficult time, others go simply to grow closer, improve communication, or strengthen their relationship before problems arise.

What happens in a session?

Sessions usually involve open conversation guided by the therapist, where everyone gets a chance to share their perspective. The therapist helps identify unhealthy patterns and offers tools to communicate and resolve conflicts more effectively.

Does everyone in the family need to attend every session?

Not necessarily. Depending on the situation, a therapist might meet with the whole family together, just a couple, or even individuals at different points in the process.

What kinds of issues can we work on?

It can help with a wide range of concerns—communication breakdowns, trust issues, parenting disagreements, life transitions, or ongoing conflict—as well as simply strengthening the relationship overall.

How long does this type of therapy usually take?

It varies depending on the family or couple's goals and the issues involved—some come in for a short period to work through a specific issue, while others continue longer-term.
